World Youth Day 2005, Cologne, Germany. The World Youth Day 2005 was held in Cologne, Germany from August
9 - 21. Participating in this worldwide gathering were Joe, Cely and Charlemagne Rafols representing St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church, Diocese of San Bernardino, California. From Augst 9-15, the delegates from the Diocese of San Bernardino
were hosted by the Diocese of Lindburg, Germany where delegates where hosted by different families in that diocese. Spiritual
and social activities were planned and provided. It was wonderful to meet different people and learn about their culture as
well. August 16 was the welcome mass for all the delegates in Cologne at the Rhine Auditorium. Pope Benedict
XVI join the pilgrims on the vigil and the concluding mass on August 20-21. On this pilgrimage we were able to meet one
of our relative residing in Germany, Fernando Rafols Jr. who come by the Central Hotel where we were staying.
